Camp Lenape Campers Visit the Station

Camp Lenape is comprised of "two, six-week day camps (June 30-Aug. 8) operated by United Cerebral Palsy of Delaware serve both children and young adults with all types of disabilities (ages 3-21) and those without disabilities (ages 6-13). Activities at both locations include swimming, arts and crafts, sports and computer enrichment as well as special guests such as musicians and demonstrators from the mounted police and K-9 unit.staff brought their campers to the station to look at the trucks and to get some cool fire prevention goodie bags."

Station 49 then brought some equipment out to their facility. While the campers undoubtedly thought all the trucks and lights and sounds were really neat, it is also really important for us to make sure all children young or old are familiar with the fire service. A firefighter in full gear with a mask on doesn't always look that welcoming, especially to a child or young adult with a disability. That way if the worst happens and we interact with them they hopefully will remember we are there to help them with whatever situation has arisen.

They also got to spray a little water from Brush 49.  It is a full size pick up outfitted to fight fire off-road, such as a field or woods fire.  Somewhere a firetruck just won't be able to get to.
